Jean Valjean has gone by many names, once convicted for stealing some bread Valjean has been trying to escape his past since his release. After promising Fantine he would look after her little girl, he has raised Cosette as if she were his own child. He hopes to never run into his old enemy Javert again, who has sworn to find and convict Valjean after breaking his parole.

Once a happy carefree young girl, her future was dashed when she fell for a young man who left her with child. She left the child in the care of the Thénardiers, so she could work in order to earn enough money for herself and her child. After being sacked from her factory job she turns to prostitution, she is later saved from prison by Valjean who looks after her in her final days, and promises to look after her child.

Marius is a student involved in the ABC, who has drifted from his family due to his political views. He is indebted to the theif Thénardier who saved his father’s life and upon seeing Cosette falls deeply in love with her.

She is the eldest daughter of the Thénardiers, once a spoilt child she has become a street child, surviving by her own instincts and by working for her father. She is madly in love with Marius and awaits they day he will finally notice her.

After renouncing his convict father and gypsy mother, Javert sets to work as a prison guard favouring the law greatly. He works his way up to becoming an Inspector and is dedicated to trying to find Jean Valjean, an ex-convict who has broken his parole and escaped his clutches twice before.

They have five children together Éponine , Azelma, Gavroche and two young sons who are often left to fend for themselves. Thénardier works with the criminal group Patron-Minette and the pair are competent con artists.

THE REVOLUTIONARIES

The ABC Revolutionaries are a student based group who are preparing to stand up against the monarchy as a result of the death of General Lamarque. The only French leader who sympathised with the working class. The living conditions of the working class people are poor, lack of food and disease are killing hundreds of people, including the Europe-wide outbreak of cholera.

The youngest daughter of the Thénardiers, she was also spoilt when she was younger, however became ragged along with the rest of her family. She works with her father and is the opposite to her older sister. She is dependent, faint-hearted and shows no defiance to her father’s ways.

The eldest Thénardier son, he named himself as his mother favours her daughters and his father’s main interest is making money. His younger brothers were sold and his doesn’t know who they went to. He is bright and streetwise.

He uses a circle of close friends to aid him in his mission to rescue those sentenced to death in France.

Minette Roland - (Age 22) An actress with a talent for manipulating people, she moves in high circles and is an informant to the League, however she is fickle and has a tendency to betray those close to her. Marquis de Rochambeau - (Age 65) Helenes adoptive father, he has brought her up as his own and now resides in England after fleeing France. He wishes one day to be reunited with Helene. (2) Helene de Rochambeau - (Age 20) A strong headed young girl, she feigned illness to stay in France during the revolution and was left at a nearby convent. She left after afew weeks to join her lover Henri. She is the daughter of Chauvelin, but only knows him as her father by his former name. (2) Vicomte Henri Roquefeuil-Blanquefort - (Age 25) The leader of the Sacred Heart Henri feels greatly, and is extremely passionate about the Rebel cause and in love with Helene whom he has vowed to protect. Suggested PB: Hans Matheson (2) Gabrielle Damiens - (Age 34 to 45) Nicknamed Madame Guillotine for the ruthless governing of the village Barbizon, Gabrielle is as strong as any man and feared by many. She is looking for Helene and working to destroy the rebel camps. Suggest Playbys - Alex Kingston, Kate Beckinsale.(2) Countess de Martignac - (Age 48) Rescued by the Pimpernal during the revolution, you may design this character as you wish. Baroness Bridoire - (46) Her husband was executed in the first revolution. (1) Maximilien Robespierre - (46) One of the leaders of the French Revolution. Also known as "the Incorruptible". He was an influential member of the Committee of Public Safety and was instrumental in the period of the Revolution commonly known as the Reign of Terror that ended with his arrest and execution.
