All men are born, but heroes... They are forged of the hottest of furnaces. Hey everyone! Meet Lieutenant Colonel Andre Bouvier, French Foreign Legion, Commander of the Spanish Battalion. Andre Bouvier arrives in Paris a month before the revolt, specifically to hand a report to the court about the situation in Algeria. His battalion is in Marseilles, rearming and recuperating from a rough year on duty. This leads several plot options I'm willing to explore. One: First, a past post where he's trying to give the report to the court and gets frustrated over their lack of actually caring. Two: Afterwards, he'd have to meet with some of the revolutionaries and, at some point, speak with them about the grand ideas of the republic. Three: Shortly after the revolt, when it's clear the guard cannot handle it, he's called to bring his battalion and another (the italian battalion) in from outside the of Paris (where they'd have been stationed in a small fort outside the city so that the King could review them) to help quell it. This is where things can get interesting. There he could either... a) Help fight the rebels depending on the deal the government gives him. b) Fight for the rebels and help hasten the downfall, depending on the offer they give him and his men. I really look forward to playing with y'all, let me know if you're interested

I have a few characters that might be worth plotting with Andre? I know I spoke with you briefly in the cbox a couple days ago about some of them. I'm tired and not thinking too clearly on specific plot ideas, but here's some character summaries in case something spawns an idea.
1. Andre and Victor. We talked quite a bit about this--Victor's a cavalry officer, and though he's seen action, it's all been domestic stuff. He's a captain, so technically Andre does outrank him--though he's from an aristocratic family (but a third son and untitled). Tendency toward drinking and womanizing, though not usually to extreme excess (he's not an alcoholic... at least not yet, and probably won't become one). Extremely loyal to the crown, serves as the king's riding instructor for the time being. Does have aristocratic prejudices (and a dueling record), but also able to settle down and do what he's supposed to do.
2. Andre and Henri. Henri is the leader of the Sacred Heart... who are essentially a band of pro-republic guerrillas, based predominately in the Fontainebleau Forest. They're coming to Paris to assist in the uprising, and Henri as an individual tends to be excessively religious--and is creeping toward further and further toward a dangerous sort of radicalism as the stress of what he's been involved in gets to him. He's vicomte and therefore an aristocrat by birth, but does mostly try to distance himself from that (and most of his men are of peasant extraction). He would likely do his best to offer Andre and his men a good deal--but he's not exactly a government official or a politician. He's also going to be out of his element fighting in the city, because although he's seen some skirmishes in the forest... it's a different game in the city.
3. Andre and Feuilly. Of course, Feuilly is a revolutionary. Working class, not exactly powerful, big on the world outside France. He'd certainly be interested in what Andre has to say, though what he can do with that information would remain to be seen. And he'd be curious about what's going on in Marseilles, because my version of him is from there originally. Might be a bit suspicious on first meeting just about anyone, but friendly and would without doubt want to know about the experiences Andre and his men had in Algeria (and anywhere else they had come from).
4. Andre and Montparnasse... not sure there's much to do there. Unless Andre wants to encounter a rather depraved creep of a thief and murderer. I doubt Montparnasse would ever take it upon himself to hunt Andre, as I doubt he looks like a particularly vulnerable and lucrative target. And unfortunately, most of Montparnasse's interactions are based on him dealing with other human beings as prey. Could probably stand to lose a struggle or two (I mean, in the book Valjean takes him down that one time...) regardless.

Replying categorically to Ash:
1) Andre and Vic can definitely meet. If anything they can meet the same day he's at court to present his report to the king/officials.
2) I definitely see Andre and Henri needing to meet at some point. The Sacred Heart seems like a rather large rebel group, and Andre may see them as a group that needs actual organization and training... Perhaps once in the weeks prior he could help with that.
3) As for Feuilly their interaction would probably be a lot less high level treasonous at first. Most likely Andre would be buying a fan for someone and they strike up conversation.
4) Montparnasse... Honestly with him I don't see a whole lot of interaction. They're on completely different wavelengths.

I think I agree there! The Sacred Heart could definitely use some help from someone with actual military background. Henri can only learn so much from books, and even the other more highly ranked SH members don't seem to have a lot of military experience. Would be extremely beneficial for them.
Victor can be found around court easily enough, so that works too.
Feuilly meets everyone by selling fans, hahaha. Which makes sense, honestly, but is a recurring theme. Certainly works.
Yeah, I can't think of any reason for much of anyone to with Montparnasse. He's on a different wavelength from... pretty much everyone. Which is probably a good thing, honestly, because he's a creep.

Henri and Andre should definitely thread soon... Perhaps... Hmm, I have an idea for how they meet. Henri needs to meet a contact in a small, out of the way church. Andre, the same night, has been having night terrors so he's in the church to pray. Henri think's he's the contact and begins to talk, and soon after they hear police circle the church.... And we can go from there no? It'd be fun
