However, he is unable of becoming anything else. In a way, he is also like a loyal dog—unquestioning and eager to please. While Armand is definitely educated and book-smart, he may at times display a lack of practicality and common sense. He is a dreamer and thinks up of the most peculiar things. He is also a very peaceful fellow, who could not bear the thought of harming or killing anyone. He is also a Christian, and regularly prays to God. Armand enjoys nothing more than being surrounded by friends and comrades. He is not the type to ignore how others think of him, and worries constantly when he figures that he may have hurt someone’s feelings. When Armand loves, he loves deeply. He would be willing to sacrifice his own life to save someone he is attached to. He is also a very forgiving individual. Regarding his political alignment, Armand is a nationalistic Frenchman. He holds Republican views, but is more of a moderate than a radical. APPEARANCE: Armand is quite tall, but is not taller than some of the Englishmen like Sir Percy. He is also of slim built. His hair is as dark as that of his sister’s. His features more or less resemble hers, but are of a more masculine taste. He was also described to have a clear and noble forehead. Armand also ensures that he is impeccably dressed, but never dares to go out in clothes that are much too dandy-like. GOALS: Armand St. Just desires to be a productive member of the League. He feels heavily indebted to Sir Percy Blakeney for saving his life, and would be willing to sacrifice everything in order to support his brother-in-law. Armand also wants to help his sister live a happy and peaceful life. Armand personally aims to save at least a thousand Frenchmen from Madame Guillotine. Last but not the least, Armand also seeks to find a good and stable relationship with someone, women having often left him for being “too niceâ€Â. HISTORY: Born from a plebeian family, Armand was lucky enough to have numerous opportunities to learn. He had a particular interest in the law, was blessed with a charismatic sister, who happened to sustain the both of them through her talents as an actress. As a youth, Armand met numerous liberalists and was well schooled in the ideals of the revolution. The concepts of liberte, egalite, and fraternite soon compounded themselves into his personal philosophy. But still, Armand was just a simple man who hoped that, one day, France would find itself in better hands and would ultimately free itself from the chains of tyranny. Believing this, he also saw it possible to love someone of a higher caste. He left all doubts to the future and began courting the daughter of the Marquis St. Cyr. His efforts were in vain, though. One day, a bunch of hired men beat him up. From then on, Armand understood it only too well—revolution was imminent, the royalty would never be willing to relinquish their power. Being an orphan, Armand lived with his sister in their shared flat in Rue de Richelieu. There, he was surrounded by some of Paris’s most esteemed, most of whom were surprisingly courting his sister. Marguerite St.Cyr could have all the jewels and books she wanted, but at the end, she picked the Englishman Sir Percy. Together with them, Armand departed for England. Still, France calls for her dutiful son. Armand returned to his motherland only to see it gradually deteriorate. He vowed to do something about the situation. Thus, he returned often, keeping a home there and in England. With the aid of the Scarlet Pimpernel, who happened to be his brother-in-law and savior, he was able to smuggle some members of royalty back to England. Aside from working with Sir Percy Blakeney and the League, Armand also possessed ties with numerous revolutionary or liberal circles around Paris. He frequented salons, fell in love with women, discussed ideas, and studied whatever he felt relevant to his cause. With regards to romance and revolutionary uprisings, not only was he duped once or twice, but again and again. Still, his faith in France was strong. With childlike optimism, he kept the hope that one day the sun will shine brightly once more in his beloved country. ----- ALIAS: Strome AGE: 18 GENDER: M OTHER CHARACTERS: none HOW DID YOU FIND US: some sort of RPG directory-like website ROLEPLAY SAMPLE: Armand smiled at the child. With all the suffering he had witnessed so far, the kindness the kid showed him was much like a little ray of sunshine that pierced the dark clouds surrounding him. “Little boy,†he started. “Why are you here, where is your mother? She must be worried sick looking for you.†He noted the grime that covered the child’s face and knew at once that this poor soul was born of the revolution. He was lost, perhaps as lost as Armand was at the moment. The man recalled how he left his sister in the capable hands of her husband back in the shores of England. He uttered a silent prayer to God, thanking Him for keeping them safe and away from the sights that he had seen just a few moments ago. It was indeed quite peculiar that Sir Percy did not decide to leave to follow him, or for Marguerite to, in turn, shadow her husband. Armand pondered this for a while and noted the child still looking at him expectantly. He pulled out an envelope from his pocket, pressed some francs into the child’s hand and kissed him on the forehead. “Leave, leave child. This is a dangerous, dangerous place. Use the money to keep yourself warm. I could not bring you with me. Bad men are running after me.†Armand said. He watched as the child detached from him and disappeared into the shadows once again. “May God keep the innocent safe, protect them from harm, His beloved and pure. May God give them peace and rest, dry their tears and with His grace, give them the happiness they deserve.†he murmured. Armand returned to what he was thinking of previously. It was so peculiar that he had not encountered anyone troublesome the whole day. Suddenly it hit him: “Mon dieu!†he swore. It seems that the Scarlet Pimpernel was back here at France.
