Hey everyone This is a new subplot in the works. Feel free to add ideas etc. Also, the people mentioned in it should post back confirming that they agree it's okay to do.
____________
Sub-plot Name: Covert Affairs
Characters involved:Paul Chauvelin, Marie Evangeline Roquefeuil, Henri Roquefeuil-Blanquefort, Helene de Rochambeau, Percy Blakeney and (minorly) Henri D'Artois and Victor D'Anthes
Storyline: So basically, King Henri saw Chauv pining over Margot Blakeney at the Masquerade and understood his motivation because he says the only other time he'd seen a man look like Paul looked at Margot was remembering how he felt/looked in the mirror when he got the invitation to Maria Antonia's wedding and realized that she loved someone else rather than him anymore and they'd never be together again. So at that point he decides to try to do something to help make Chauv happy again because, after two years of being his protegé and his friend... he really does care. So Henri can't sleep the night of the Masquerade and goes to Victor's apartments to ask for Victor's help setting up a 'friend' with a girl. He does not tell Victor, however, that the friend is Chauv; he just describes the kind of girl he thinks Chauv needs and then sets him on the hunt.
The person Victor inevitably settles on his Marie Evangeline (Henri Roquefuil-Blanquefort's mother dearest). She meets almost all of the criteria supplied by King Henri, and we think that Victor's family has known Marie's family since before Victor was born. So, King Henri and Victor settle upon a plot to get Marie and Chauv together. Henri has Victor write a note to Marie asking her to meet him in a pretty field out of Paris because he wants to discuss something with her. Henri does the same with Chauv (a necessity because they keep their friendship on the quiet side). However, predictably, neither Victor nor Henri plan to show up, leaving Chauv and Marie to wind up on a blind date of sorts. To their shock, however, they wind up hitting it off. For a while, however, they keep their true loyalties and political thoughts (for the most part) from each other. Thus, Chauv is able to win Marie over - all the time being absolutely terrified that, like Margot, when she sees his true self she'll run far far away. And he doesn't think he could take that. The closer they become to each other, the more afraid he becomes. Chauv starts to encourage Marie's "Renaissance" of sorts - encouraging her to buck off convention by riding without a sidesaddle for the first time since childhood, going skinny dipping in the moonlight etc. Before long they're heavily involved. Eventually, perhaps with the revolution or other means Chauv's and Marie's true loyalties come to the test. Marie secretly aids and abets Percy and what he does.. and has ever since he helped her during Revolution number 2 as a young man, while Chauv dreams of a Republic while working the Chouannerie from the inside out.
At the same time, talk about AWKWARDness with Marie's son, Henri and his beloved Helene. No one really wants to find out that their mother is dating when they're twenty-five... but it's at a whole other level when you find out WHO they're dating! Moreover, we have Marie who isn't horribly thrilled with Henri's choice in Helene. She has a grudging respect for Helene because of her intelligence and grit, and because she wants Henri to wind up with someone he truly loves - but she wishes his adolescent youthfulness (as she believes it to be) would calm down, him come back and stop this Sacred Heart, take back his position and use it to benefit (monarchist) France.. and knows that Helene is NOT helping him to do what she wants even if he is quite taken with her. Ultimately, she winds up letting Percy know to stop looking for the girl in convents and where she is, not knowing that this may result in her being sent away who knows. Ultimately, the whole situation is just going to lead to a lot of awkwardness, arguing, and shock for Mother, son, and everyone else involved! Yay for complicated relationships. Moreover, it's not going to get all that much better when revolution breaks out in France (again) and Marie discovers, to her horror, that she's pregnant forcing Chauv to face the skeletons in his closet - so to speak - while France goes to hell in a handbasket and everyone scrambles - including Marie who may realize that Henri is miserable without Helene and try to help them depending on what's happened to her. Of course more can/will be developed at a future date - but that's what we're thinking thus far. Henri and Helene can insert other ideas as they come up.
Determined Ending: Ultimately, Marie and Chauv are going to wind up with a baby - but will stay together, though it won't be easy .. sorting things out with everything going on. And hopefully Helene and Henri will wind up together too - provided no one loses everything from the neck up.
