Max liked this, it made him feel as if he could listen to Courf all day and Night, actually if he could he would, he knew it would be worth it. Max could tell he could learn an awful lot from Courf, something that Max was looking forward to. For now though the gamin listened to the story taking it all in learning and agreeing with what was said, he had heard the names before of course but had never been told the story. Finally he was being taught the story and what was made better was that it was from someone he could connect with, and that the that fact Courf was telling him made it even better. It seemed right that it was Courf who was teaching him something new that the young boy had never known. The comparison between being told a story, or taught something between Courf and one of his family members was glaring, the lessons seemed a lot more valuable and meaningful when they came from his new friend. As the lessons came to their conclusion Max having found himself nodding and counting with each one, having sat through the whole speech with a very interested and tranquil expression Max Spoke up. "There's a fourth," the young boy held up a fourth finger before smiling again and continuing on "even wise and good men mess up." this seemed to ring true a lot of the time and it mainly seemed to come with the those wise men that believed themselves above such things as messing up, when the cold reality was that even they could commit terrible mistakes that they cannot go back from, and it would be all their fault. There was one lesson that struck true, one that Max agreed with no matter what, it also showed he had been listening "one man makin all decisions is a disaster waitin t happen" Max said his tone saddened somewhat by a part of the story he had heard, a man killing someone to take their wife that was not right, it was despicable, it was disheartening to hear someone could really do that. The Story though had been nice, the boy had been able to imagine every moment of it, almost seeing it as it happened, the warmth of Courf's voice having drawn the young gamin further and further into the story hence the tranquil look upon the boy’s face during the story. From the heartening message that the story and lessons left on, to the sad inevitability of an impending death, it seemed obvious to most, it seemed that the general would pass, but the news was saddening nonetheless. Death was something that in the end no one could escape from but it was still extremely terrible to hear about someone that close to it, he looked own sadly at his shoes. "Can nothin be done for him?" he asked holding a speck of hope, though to be honest he already knew the answer it was most likely impossible to do anything, he just wanted to hear if anything could or could not be done for the general. Oh yes some of us do care. That made the gamin happier, Courf say that there was some in the aristocracy who did actually want to help, it made the boy feel better again, about himself as well, Max looked back up "are there many outspoken ones?" He asked curiously maybe there was another like the general that he had not heard of, the question could just as easily be talking about those who were outspoken against the people, and there was plenty of them. Max was certainly glad though is mention of how much more of them there were worked, he returned Courf's nod a lot happier than moments ago. It did look like the young boy's attempt at cheering the older boy up did work not fully but enough, he chuckled with him, also finally getting a name for one of his friends. "Grantaire is one of your friends?" he asked curiously giving another quick glance around, he would indeed really like to meet them, very much so, yet the nagging would they like him feeling had come back the one he had asked to go away much earlier."I can't wait t meet um," it was true, but he would wait if he had to and it looked like he would not that it was truly a bad thing. Oh he liked the idea of handing out the pamphlets, while not the most exciting thing it did mean he was doing something for the cause so there was that. Doing it with Courf was something that made the idea even more exciting than it was, he would certainly try impress the old boy and not mess up, but then actually how could you mess up something like that. “I' don't mind doin that, sounds like fun he said." The gamin also knew that if he stayed with Courf that he would be fine, he was a lot less likely to get into trouble as well. He liked where this friendship was going, he liked it a lot. "Do you want some help lookin for um?" the younger boy asked not sure if Courf actually knew where they were or not, he did not want to upset him or anything. |
