The army, well what Henri said brought a smile to lips, his friend knew him very well and vice versa, to be honest he had never thought about the army even once in his life, but there more he thought about it, he would not of been surprised if he had ended up there of his own choice. While he was very much the historian and loved to find out things and find out how far something dated back or at least find the historical reference of something, planning and tactics well they were certainly part of him and yes he knew one thing that would certainly have some place in the army. "Well you know an Officer or some higher up the chain," he told him with a quick grin, there was no way he would join the army now and to be honest while it was an idea thinking about it he don't think he ever would of. "The Army would be too dull for me anyway, plus I’d be too busy going on about the history of it," he grinned it was true, he was so interested in History that a career in the army would turn into a substitute for his Historical leanings or just he would never join it wanting something in the historical realm instead.

That was one of the many good things about being Part of the Sacred Heart the two of them were making History, they could even get in the History books for this, how and why well that was down to whatever happened but it was still an exciting prospect. This was not to say his only reason for wanting to be Part of the Sacred Heart there were many different reasons, many different ideas and such, it was just this was one of those among the many.

"I don't like it but least I know your clever enough," he said with a smile complimenting his friend deciding to let the subject drop for now, it would do no good trying to tell Henri off 24/7 that's not what their friendship was about no matter how worried he was for him. He gave a slight nod, Henri should be able to look after himself at his estate, though back up could not hurt encase anything was to go slightly wrong.

He smiled to himself and nodded at where Henri said not to go, both might end up in trouble, he looked at the tree line they were headed for and grinned catching up to Henri before heading left a bit.
"I Would say don't get lost but the day you get lost well you get what I mean."

Henri returned the grin. Yes, there was no doubt that Nathaniel would have made an officer if he'd gone for the military, but Henri could not help but be thankful that he had not. Whether he would have found it boring or not, he didn't know; he suspected it was true—even the memoirs they had pored over as boys were filled with dull parts, when there was no war to threaten France's borders and little to do even internally.

Somehow, in the books they always found something exciting to do. A sudden urge to retrieve some of those books from the estate's library seized him; what good they would do them in the woods he didn't know. We could give them to the boys... He realized even as he thought it that most of the peasant boys likely could not read. “Perhaps you should teach the children in the camp.” It was an honest suggestion; it was not as if he and Nathaniel alike did not already have a mountain of responsibility, but eventually these peasant children would need to learn the fundamentals of various subjects to become informed citizens of the Republic.

“I know you don't like it,” he sighed slightly. “Honestly, I doubt Helene likes me going either.” He hadn't asked her. I should ask her, but I can't. There were so many things that he wished he could speak to her about and could not. He felt almost preoccupied.

He needed to free his mind from serious issues, to relax. Nathaniel had shown all the signs of exhaustion earlier, and continuing on with serious topics wasn't going to help. He nudged his horse into a canter as they turned onto a game trail with better footing, glancing back at Nathaniel with a grin. “The upper pasture. It should be empty.”

The place had been a favorite of theirs as children. It was used for grazing the horses, mostly when they bred the mares. As far as he knew, however, there was only a very small foal crop this season—they had no use for more. They did not have the pedigrees and conformation to be sold for high prices, and Henri's mother scarcely had a use for half a dozen young saddlehorses needing to be broken in. The Sacred Heart might, but Henri feared that suddenly wanting to have the mares covered would elicit some suspicion from her.

Empty, the pasture would be peaceful, pleasant, isolated from any overly curious eyes. It had served as a mock battlefield long before either of the young men knew what a fight was really like. It seemed, in a word, ideal.
